21 players from the club travelled to Derry today for Northern Ireland Schools Judo Championships. We won an excellent 11 Golds, 4 Silvers & 5 Bronze Medals. Club honoured by Castlereagh Sports Development Association
Castlereagh Borough Council’s Sports Development Association hosted a Celebration of Sporting Achievements on Wednesday 8th June. Murakwai Judo Club, based in Cregagh, Ballybeen, Moneyrea & Bangor, were given 4 different awards. This event happens every 2 years when sports people, coaches, clubs and administrators are rewarded for achievements, performances and dedication to their sport.
Daniel narrowly misses out on his Black Belt
At yesterday’s Dan Grading in Derry, 14 year old Daniel Mayhew narrowly missed out on his 1st Dan Black Belt. 50 points in 1 day gives you automatic promotion and Daniel almost completed this impressive task winning his first 4 fights (all against much older & heavier opponents) all by the maximum Ippon score (10 points) but in his 5th contest of the day, Daniel only managed a victory by wazari (7 points) meaning he finished the day with 47 points! This was still an excellent achievement for Daniel who will look to collect his remaining points at the next Dan grading which will be shortly after his 15th birthday.
