If you’ve seen the movies and practiced in front of the mirror and now you want to have a go yourself, you’ve come to the right place!
Why do Judo?
- Judo is great fun
- It’s great for keeping fit and getting in shape
- You can meet lots of new people
- Compete locally, nationally and maybe even one day for your country
- Unlike many other Martial Arts, Judo is an Olympic Sport
Who can do Judo?
- Anyone over the age of five
- Male and female competitors train together but compete seperately
When are the classes?
Monday nights in Bangor from 6 – 9.30pm
- Introductory Class: 5 - 12 years from 6.30 – 7.30pm
- Intermediate/Elite Class: 13 years+ from 8-9.30pm
Tuesday nights in Ballybeen from 6.30 – 9.45pm
- Introductory Class: 5 - 8 years from 6.30 – 7.30pm
- Intermediate Class: 9 – 12 years from 7.30 – 8.30pm
- Elite Class: 13 years+ from 8.30 – 9.45pm
Thursday nights in Cregagh from 6 – 9.30pm
- Introductory Class: 5 - 8 years from 6 – 7pm
- Intermediate Class: 9 – 12 years from 7 – 8pm
- Elite Class: 13 years+ from 8 – 9.30pm
Friday nights in Moneyrea from 4 – 6pm
- 5 - 9 years from 4 – 5pm
- 10 years + from 5 – 6pm

What do I need to start?
- Initially an old tracksuit top will do
- If you decide you like Judo, a Judo Suit (judo-gi) can be purchased from the club
- A licence is required to practice judo, this can be obtained through the club from the NIJF
Will I get quality coaching?
- The BJA coaching award is regarded as being one of the best in the world – it is designed to deliver safe and quality judo
- All NIJF member clubs are required to have at least one qualified coach, Murakwai has 3
- All coaches must be qualified in First Aid
- Coaches are required to comply with the BJA Child Protection Policy
- All NIJF/BJA coaches are required to complete a personal disclosure form
